Dating fender cts speakers
Here we have a vintage 1962 Fender brown tolex Princeton, in very good original condition. Here we have a 1964 Fender Bandmaster head and matching 2x12" cabinet.
Original transformers, original Oxford speaker dates to the 19th week of 1962. Pre-CBS, Fender Electric Instruments, about 40 watts from two 6L6s, great tremolo.
I've learned the hard way, you get a speaker that old it can be great or the voice coil or cone can fail the first time you hit it hard.
I think a '71 will sound less different than a Weber re-cone?
The only good thing about dating amps this way is Fender never deviated-still valid today. If your JBL says D120F on it(look for the “f”) certainly could have been stock.
I have a set of vintage Jensens in a super reverb that are amazing sounding (nothing like modern jensens). Instead of a recone, I found a pair of 71 cts alnico's I was going to pick up and pair with the jensens.
